We stayed at the Wynn this year even though they have the stuffiest late night gambling scene in Vegas — $50 and up tables and a crew of rich middle-aged gamblers who all look like they were extras in “Igby Goes Down” or “The Ice Storm.” If you ever wanted to play blackjack with surly divorced women working on their 19th glass of pinot grigio, or 55-year-old guys wearing suits and calling each other “Trip” and “Hunter,” this is the place for you.

He also calls McCarran Airport “The Seventh Circle of Hell” on Fridays and Sundays.

It is located just 5 miles from the Las Vegas Strip. The hotel has a free shuttle that runs on a schedule basis that runs from the hotel to the Strip. There are many great restaurants located in the South Point. There is a 24-hour American and Chinese Café, a deli for casual dining; there is even Italian, Mexican and Seafood eateries onsite. Then there is always room service that is available 24 hours a day.

The pool area is one of the best areas in the hotel, they have a large pool and a children’s pool, a spa and a poolside bar. If you are into sports then feel free to enjoy the hotel’s sand volleyball court. If you are not an outdoor person, there are many things to do inside such as gambling in the hotel’s large casino or there is a movie theatre, a bowling alley and an equestrian center (outdoors). There are small fees that apply for those activities.

The rooms are available in single and double and if you are interested there are suites available. The rooms are air-conditioned, have plasma TVs, a separate sitting area with couch, a writing table and a view of the strip or the mountains. The mountains offer a beautiful sunrise and sunset and the electric lights of the strip are spectacular.

Other amenities include an arcade game room, a ballroom for parties, dry cleaning services, room service, fitness center, full service spa, gift shops, Atm machine (of course) and a steam room.

Out of all of the hotels on and near the strip, this hotel offers as much if not more than some of the hotels on the strip itself. If you are planning a trip to Vegas and are still choosing a hotel, consider this one.

There are single rooms, double rooms and non smoking rooms are available if you request them. Each room has a coffeemaker and cable TV, plus wireless Internet access. The rooms surround the courtyard and have that old west feel. There is a pool and a fitness center on site.

There is a 24-hour casino available. They feature the standard Vegas games, slot machines, and table games such as roulette, craps and baccarat.

There are many restaurants that you can enjoy when you stay at the Palace, some of the eateries are Pizza Palace, Pasta Palace and for seafood lovers the Broiler and Oyster Bar.

There is even a pub called Jack’s Irish pub, they serve real Irish beer, and such foods as stew and the famous corned beef and cabbage. Live music is available nightly. If you are looking for a hotel that is close to the strip but away from the hustle and bustle of the strip, then come try Palace Station.

The lobby of the hotel gives you the old west feel. There are gas lamps and brass fixtures such as door handles, the desk itself is old west. There are wrought iron railings and stain glass windows. There are many great restaurants on the premises, the Pullman Grille can provide wedding and reception events, the food is outstanding; they serve Black Angus steak and great seafood fare.

In 2006 the Garden Court Buffet was rated as the largest buffet in Vegas. They have every type of food and desserts you could want. The other restaurant, the 777 Brewery has homemade beers and general pub food and they also have a seafood bar.

Each room has French Provincial style furniture and white plantation wood shutters. There are a few views to choose from, the freeway or the railroad tracks and there are even rooms that face the city of Vegas.

One of the highlights of the hotel is Theodore Roosevelt’s Pullman railroad car is actually located on the hotel property. There is also a section of the famous Berlin Wall.

The casino has slot machines, table games such as Roulette, Black jack, Craps, Pai Gow and Baccarat. There is also Bingo, Keno, Poker, Spanish 21, Three Card Poker just to name a few. The hotel also has a race and sports betting room with 86 TV’s in a 400-seat room.

The restaurants on site are the Sonoma Cellar Steak House and a seafood restaurant called Costa del Sol. There is a 300-seat lounge that has the best entertainment located off the strip. There are casual cafes that cater to families with children who are not into big fancy food.

Other hotel amenities include a pool, night clubs for the adults, a bowling alley, movie theatre, health club, gift shop, business center, high speed Internet access for a small fee. There is laundry service as well as room service.

If you are looking for something different and off of the Strip, the Sunset Station is the place to be, they have an outstanding reputation and it is well deserved.

The Terra Rossa serves such cuisine as Italian food, homemade pasta and pizzas. There is a 24-hour café that serves casual food like burgers, salads and sandwiches. The Sandbar is a causal place where shoes are not necessary; this poolside café has casual food as well.

The hotel has a business center, there is a fitness center and spa located onsite. A boxing ring, a lap pool and three cabanas. There is a man made beach and private cabanas and a pool.

In comparison to the other hotels, the Red Rock is very homey and not too crazy because it is 12 miles from the strip. If you want fun and a relaxing time then the Red Rock is for you. The guest rooms have Italian linens, bathrobes and even slippers; they make you feel right at home.

The rooms have phones, iPod docking stations, plasma TV’s and if you prefer a view, request a room located in the tower, there you can see Red Rock Canyon as well as the Strip. The rooms are also equipped with marble bathrooms that have TV’s, soaking tubs and a scale.

The casino has 2700 slot machines and video poker. Over 60 table games such as blackjack, poker, craps and roulette. There is also race and sport betting available and a 600-seat bingo hall. The hotel even has a 16-screen movie theatre.

The menu has a little bit of everything from prime Porterhouse, Prime rib, the best Filet Mignon you ever had. They serve chicken, seafood as well as veal dishes. The appetizers are really great including Lobster Bisque Shrimp Cocktail and French onion soup.

The offer several different types of salads, the House Salad, Caesar Salad and the Sonoma’s Steak House Salad. If you love steak, then you will love this classic salad variation. The Sonoma also has a five star wine list, that includes Pen fold’s Chardonnay and Cabernet Shiraz.

What better way to top off a great dinner is to get a great tasting dessert? The Sonoma offers New York Style Cheesecakes and Lemon Meringue Cake as well as full dessert cart.
